Do Not Stop Him

John said to him, ‘Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.’ ³⁹But Jesus said, ‘Do not stop him; for no one who does a deed of power in my name will be able soon afterwards to speak evil of me. ⁴⁰Whoever is not against us is for us. ⁴¹For truly I tell you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ will by no means lose the reward.Mark 9:38-41

where does healing come from
is it only the providence of Jesus
the disciples who should be able to heal like you
they are not able to help a child

he was healing in your name
we tried to stop him
he wasn't following us

do not stop him
Jesus said, 'do not stop him'
whoever is not against us is for us
if someone gives you water, drink

do not stop him
where do we turn for healing, today
we have been given medicine
we have doctors, nurses, researchers, aids
we have people who can treat our illness, our broken bodies

do not stop them
what do we do to gain access to these healing professionals?
how do we make it possible for everyone who is ill to receive healing treatment?
how do we separate an ability to pay from the need to receive healing?

do not stop him
I hear in this scripture a push to accept healing from others
I hear Jesus suggesting that healing comes from many sources outside of him
I hear Jesus saying we should empower those healers to heal
