Breaking the Rules

On one occasion when Jesus was going to the house of a leader of the Pharisees to eat a meal on the sabbath, they were watching him closely. 2Just then, in front of him, there was a man who had dropsy. 3And Jesus asked the lawyers and Pharisees, ‘Is it lawful to cure people on the sabbath, or not?’ 4But they were silent. So Jesus took him and healed him, and sent him away. 5Then he said to them, ‘If one of you has a child or an ox that has fallen into a well, will you not immediately pull it out on a sabbath day?’ 6And they could not reply to this. Luke 14:1-6
Jesus and the religious leaders
they argue about when is it ok to heal
can any work be done on the Sabbath
can we heal those who are in need
even if the rules say no
if there is a child in a well won't you save it
if your dog falls in a well won't you save it
for Jesus compassion wins
compassion for those who are hurt or need
comes before the rules
Jesus heals when he sees a need
Jesus heals despite the rules
Jesus places compassion first

is our question different
we aren't asking if we can cure people on the sabbath
we have different questions
we ask why some people get the best treatment but others don't
we ask why there are so many who can't afford care
we ask what good is access if you don't have the means
we ask why we have to ration care
we ask why certain people's, countries, nations can be treated while other are left behind
we ask why we focus on curing disease instead of creating health
if Jesus practiced compassion and merccy
if Jesus broke the rules in order to heal
shouldn't we
