Go and Tell

When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. 2And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. 3They had been saying to one another, ‘Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?’ 4When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. 5As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. 6But he said to them, ‘Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. 7But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.’ 8So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. Mark 16:1-8
This is my favorite Easter story. I know you are thinking, why. Why would you like this story where the women flee in terror and say nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. Not all bunnies and chocolates. Not a garden with tears and happiness, not beach with breakfast and abundant catches, not a road with conversation, not a fire with the questions of love. Instead we are left hanging. We are left confused. We are left with questions. We wonder what happened to the rest of the story and where are happy ending is.  We are left hanging. If they are afraid and don’t tell the story, who will tell the news? Who will go and tell. Because they were afraid, they said nothing. So now it is up to us. Now it is our turn.

                        Go and Tell.
Jesus has gone ahead of you to Galilee, there you will see him. There is Galilee, the place where ministry happened. The place where Jesus loved and healed, taught and ate, laughed and cried, welcomed and challenged. In Galilee we will meet Jesus when we remember and tell the story. When we share all that he did, when we hang out with the people he hung out with, when we love as he loved. So Go.
Go and be part of the fellowship, the community everyone is welcomed and loved.
Go and be disciples, people who fail a lot and keep on trying.
Go and worship, sing praise, share bread, confess and forgive.
Go and join with others to bring love into the world.
