21 When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered round him; and he was by the lake. 22Then one of the leaders of the synagogue named Jairus came and, when he saw him, fell at his feet 23and begged him repeatedly, ‘My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live.’ 24So he went with him. And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him. Mark 5:21-24

The father is in so much pain
His heart is being torn out
His daughter is dying
Interrupted
He saw Jesus
He fell down, collapsed before Jesus
He begged,
She is dying
She is at the point of death
She may not make it
My little girl is leaving me
Interrupted
He begged
Come
Don’t tarry
Please hurry
Come quickly
Interrupted
Please touch her
Please place your hands on her
Please heal her
Please make her well
Please let her live

Jesus sets out to help
But the crowds press around him
Jesus sets out to help
But he is stopped repeatedly with requests
Jesus sets out to help
But a woman waylays him

God our lives have been interrupted, disrupted
What we had asked for, what we were praying for
Has changed, morphed, been interrupted
Interrupted
This virus has knocked us down
We know people who have lost a parent
We know people who have lost someone close
We wear masks and wash our hands
But our lives have been interrupted.
Interrupted
We thought there was a plan
We would have a job that supported our families
And then the world fell apart
Interrupted
We made plans for our future
And now we have canceled vacations
We don’t know if we will be going to college in the fall
We don’t know if that wedding will take place
Interrupted
We are so tired of crying out
We are tired like the father of begging and pleading
We fear you are interrupted and will not make it in time
We fear that the wellness and life we are asking for won’t be granted
Interrupted
Come to us in those moment of uncertainty
Come to us in those places of fear , grief and anxiety
Come to us and interrupt the scripts in our head and replace it with your comfort and love.
Amen.
